Other stuff that popped into my head to research:
Canada is the largest exporter of Chlorine to the US - used to treat drinking water amongst other uses. Chemtrade is located in North Vancouver.
Nickel - used to make steel - US has almost no nickel . They get it from Canada
• In 2023, Canada produced 158,668 tonnes of nickel, ranking sixth in global nickel mine production.
Canada’s nickel and nickel-based product exports were valued at $5.8 billion in 2023.
A key emerging use of nickel is in the production of lithium-ion batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles, which accounted for 13% of global nickel consumption in 2023.
in 2023 the US imported 49% of our nickel exports by volume.
In 2023, nickel mine production in the United States was estimated at 17,000 metric tons This was a decrease of more than 10,000 metric tons when compared to production in 2015. The U.S. currently has only one domestic nickel mine – the Eagle mine – which is an underground mine located in Michigan. Canadian production that year was 159,000 metric tons.
Potash - Canada is the leading exporter of Potash 13 million metric tons per year (used as a fertilizer). In decreasing order the rest of the top 10 are:
2. China - 6 million metric tons
3. Russia - 5 million metric tons
4. Belarus - 3 million
5. Germany - 2.8 million
6. Israel - 2.4 million
7. Jordan - 1.8 million
8. Laos - 600,000 million
9. Chile - 600,000 million
10. U.S. - 400,000 million - good luck with your crops without enough potash .
thank you
